I have decided to switch over to a blog format for updates. This will allow parents, students (and me) to look back at our week to week progress and assignments.
The 108s will be going on a walking field study to Glenbow for a half day tomorrow (Nov. 7). They will need to be dressed for the weather and bring a lunch as there will not be time to purchase one. We will have to eat quickly and get back to school for gym.
The 102s will be going on the same walking field study to Glenbow for a half day on Nov. 8th. Same notes: Dress for the weather and bring a lunch.
The Great Big Pythagorean Project (GBPP for short)
Specifics for this project can be viewed in the links in Unit 1: Sq. Roots & the Pythagorean Theorem button to the right. This project is due on Wednesday Nov. 15 and will be presented on Thursday Nov. 16. The projects will conveniently be on display for parents when they come in for P/T interviews on the 16th and 17th!
Last week, the kids submitted their proposals and will be given lots of time this week to work on the projects in class. Some materials may need to be brought in by the kids, depending on the idea. But I will be able to provide certain materials.
Last week, the kids completed a quiz. They will have an opportunity this week to take a look at the questions they answered wrong and revise them. I will then take another look and take an average of the 2 marks for their final mark.
The format of a good hypothesis
We will continue work on perfecting the structure of a hypothesis this week. The first draft of the laboratory reports revealed that we need to do a little fundamental work before we jump into writing lab reports. A final copy of the Chromatography Lab Report is not required, although if a student has worked on it, and they would like me to evaluate it they can come to me and I will do so.
Density & Viscosity
We have taken a look at density and viscosity as properties of matter, but will now be taking a look in how these properties can be affected by conditions such as temperature and pressure.
